ALL MEMBERS: Downloads recorded in the member area - 18/02/08

This is an official announcement from the Falling Pixel support team to all of our members.

You may have noticed some odd activity in your account, namely downloads occurring where there have been no purchases. We would first like to let you know that this is nothing to worry about and no fraudulent activity is taking place. The way in which our download system works is that you have to have made a purchase, or be the member who uploaded the asset files to download a product; this is 'hard-wired' into the site and there is no way around it short of hacking the server; and even if a hack did occur this would not register a download in the member area.

Previously if a member of Falling Pixel staff downloaded a file (for quality assurance purposes or for marketing) this would record a download, but this has recently been changed.

Our current theory is that the code behind the recording of downloads is malfunctioning and is flagging a download when a download has not occurred. We are monitoring downloads more closely at the moment and don't believe that any fraudulent activity is taking place.

We don't currently have an ETA on a fix for this problem but rest assured we do have people working on it.
